Frequently Answered Questions

  • Who wrote Reticule?
    Lars Magne Ingebrigtsen.

  • Why not just use INN?
INN is an exellent news server, and Gmane used that as its news server for quite a while. It was hacked quite extensively to suit Gmane's rather peculiar needs (mutable articles, group renaming, article renumbering, etc.), but was finally given up when it became obvious that it would be rather difficult to feed Gmane out in a sensible manner.

  • What's the license for Reticule?
It's the GNU General Public License. So it's free.

  • How is Reticule implemented?
It's written in Common Lisp, using CMUCL as the deployment platform. The reader frontend is called Phaeton, and is written in C.

  • What's with the name?
It's a Georgette Heyer reference. Thanks to Kathryn Burlingham.
